Biodiversity is the variety and variability of life on Earth. It is just one word but it is the most important word which denotes the life on this blue planet. Plants, Animals, Micro-organisms and even Humans themselves are a part and parcel of this biological diversity. Perhaps, there is no greater diversity that can be found in this planet like that of Biodiversity. Nature is to be valued for all its goodness. This diversity is a necessity for the existence of each and every living creature. Often, we do not realize the effect biodiversity has on us; it seems as though we are not affected by it at all. But the reality is, the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the food that we eat , everything, relies on biodiversity. Some are seemingly of no use to life, like the giant fruit eaters such as the spider monkeys but they are needed for the seed dispersion of the hardwood trees which are the most efficient in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Many times, it is the unseen which protects us. Nature has given us everything we need but we still try to reign supreme over her. The truth is, we still have only a very small amount of knowledge about the billions and trillions of mysteries that exist around us. Maybe if we just stay still and listen to the calm breeze and the echoing trees and the sweeping waves, all the cures that we need would be willingly told to us by Mother Nature herself.
This page showcases the photos taken by some of the students of The Government College of Teacher Education, Trivandrum, Kerala showcasing the nature along with her various creations. This is an activity conducted under the supervision of the college’s Biodiversity club ‘Tellurians’.
